Former employee vandalizes lab to rid 'bad karma'

Former SLAC and Joint Center for Structural Genomics (JCSG) research associate Silvya Oommachen, 32, appeared before the District Court in San Francisco on charges that she destroyed federal property. Oommachen, who was fired from her position at the JCSG after failing to show up for work after June 17, claimed she destroyed the protein samples to rid herself of “bad karma” from her experience at the lab.

Stanford prof listed as Iranian dissident

Stanford University's Director of Iranian Studies Abbas Milani has found himself personally embroiled in the current conflict taking place in Iran. On Aug. 1, the Iranian government began a mass trial against more than 100 dissidents listed on an indictment for participating in an international conspiracy to stage a revolution. Milani was one of those listed.
